The Consell de Mallorca orders the cessation of activity of 10 tourist flats dedicated to illegal tourist rentals in a building in Palma
The councillor for Tourism, José Marcial Rodríguez Díaz, expressed his satisfaction with the actions carried out by the department’s inspection and sanctions service and stressed that ‘illegal supply, regardless of the sector in which it operates, is not only very harmful unfair competition for all those who do things well on our island, who are the vast majority but also a terrible problem for coexistence, something we want to fight and eradicate’.
In this sense, Rodríguez added that this cease and desist order, which is accompanied by these sanctions, is the result of a long period of work within the department, which has ‘scrupulously complied with all the administrative processes’, and which has allowed ‘as the legal deadlines dictate’, to act in this way.
In this sense, from now on, the Inspection Department will be responsible for checking that these closures are carried out under the dossier, and if this is not the case, the Tourism Department will be able to take the matter to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
It is worth remembering that the penalties currently proposed for illegal tourist rentals on the island are 80,000 euros for each property detected. The range of fines for this issue set by the law varies from 40,001 euros in the lowest range, up to 400,000 euros in the maximum, and until now they were being imposed for 40,001 euros.
The aim is to dissuade these people from ceasing their activity to protect residents and guarantee the legal security of the entire legal offer in the tourism sector.
