The Consell de Mallorca brings together nearly 200 people from the tourism sector during its participation in FITUR, to share first-hand the progress of its strategy aimed at consolidating itself as a leading responsible destination in the tourism sector.

Under the name ‘Mallorca in essence, FITUR edition’, the island brought the most authentic aspects of its culture, gastronomy and idiosyncrasy to the Spanish capital. The event, held at the Real Casino de Madrid, was attended by the President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, who hosted the evening, accompanied by the Councillor for Tourism, Marcial Rodríguez, and the Director of Mallorca Tourism, Susanna Sciacovelli. The networking event was attended by Mallorcan companies, such as hotel companies, travel agencies and representatives of the island’s cultural world and organisations, as well as guests from the national market, including prominent media outlets such as National Geographic, RNE, Onda Cero and Wanderlust. Representatives from Edreams, Easyjet, Amadeus, Expedia, Iberia, Virtuoso, and others represented the business world.

Mallorca presents its cultural and gastronomic essence in Madrid

The president of the Consell, Llorenç Galmés, thanked the sector for its ‘commitment, loyalty and cooperation with the destination of Mallorca to spread the message of responsible tourism around the world’. Along these lines, Galmés recalled the importance of the domestic market for Mallorca, ‘the third most important after Germany and the UK’. They stressed the importance of promoting effective coexistence between residents and tourists.

An event to surprise

Aware that FITUR is one of the most popular events for tourism professionals, the Mallorca team has worked to offer an experience that will surprise guests with everything the island has to offer. Local produce was the star of the evening, with an exquisite menu prepared by Michelin-starred Mallorcan chefs Santi Taura and Jordi Cantó.

The young lyrical singer Lorena Bonnín and the pianist Carlos Bonnín performed various pieces, some classical and others more popular, interspersing their creations throughout the evening. The comedian Agustín el Casta added a touch of light-hearted fun with a monologue that reflected his characteristic ‘Mallorcan humour’.

The island’s craftsmanship was very present at the dinner ‘Mallorca in essence’.

During the evening, Mallorcan craftsmanship was very much present thanks to a selection of works and creations that represented the island’s local talent and the institution’s commitment to tradition and innovation. On the one hand, three handcrafted pieces have been exhibited that correspond to some of the artists and professionals who will participate, this year, in the ‘Biennial B’, a new project of the Consell de Mallorca and Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani, which is committed to the integration of art, crafts and sustainability to put the focus on the transformation of the territory. The works of artists such as Jessica Stockholder, Adrián Martínez and Miquel Barceló have been accompanied by QR codes, which have allowed attendees to access explanatory videos, where they have been able to learn about the history, process and inspiration behind each creation made in conjunction with artisan companies in Mallorca, such as Llanatura, Paumes, Brines and Textil Bujosa.

In addition, the Consell de Mallorca took advantage of the event to offer a preview of what will be the new brand Moda Artesana de Mallorca: a new fashion brand that identifies and recognises the artisan procedures and techniques that are carried out on the island. The presenter of the event, Ainhoa Arbizu, wore three unique outfits by local designers, accredited as artisans by the Consell de Mallorca. The first outfit, by the firm Feel Mallorca, consisted of a skirt made of fabric made of tongues, the traditional fabric of the island. The second, is an elegant dress by Maria Genovard Atelier, which was complemented with the jewellery ‘Brot de taparera’ by Damià Mulet, winner of the Artisan Design and Innovation Award 2024. Finally, the third outfit was by Vius Esporles, which presented a dress combined with a necklace from the ‘Prunus Armeniaca’ collection by the same jeweller.

Thus, the island institution has made known its commitment to Mallorca’s artisan fashion, which focuses on authenticity and local production, with rigorous requirements to be part of the brand: the pieces must be produced by accredited artisans, with a minimum of 70% of the manufacture made in Mallorca and a visual style identifiable with the island.
