The Virgen de la Salud Hospital has performed a hundred retina surgeries since 25 January 2024, when it incorporated the intervention into its portfolio of services.

Last year, 4,372 surgeries were performed at the centre, 99 of which were retina surgeries, as part of a process of continuous improvement and adaptation to the needs of users.

To be able to offer this type of surgery, they have had to adapt the facilities and surgical equipment, and the nurses involved in the process have had to be trained.

The Virgen de la Salud Hospital dedicates 90% of its activity to ophthalmological surgeries, and with the addition of retina surgery, it now covers almost all surgical procedures in this speciality, which also includes corneal transplants.

The aim was to be able to offer this service with the same safety, efficacy and efficiency as at the Son Espases facilities in order to reduce waiting lists for the intervention. The Hospital Virgen de la Salud, as well as the General Hospital and the Psychiatric Hospital, is a centre attached to the reference hospital of the Balearic Islands.
