Among other things, the offender provided false information regarding the origin of the products obtained and stored fish without weighing them.
The Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment has fined a private individual 60,001 euros for serious infringements in the area of fisheries management. Specifically, last April, the offender was denounced by inspectors from the Directorate General of Fisheries for providing false information regarding the origin of the products obtained in the fishing activity. The inspectors realised that this person had already been denounced on several occasions for infractions in this same area, such as not having a minimum crew on board or having crew members on board who did not appear in the vessel’s logbook, and also storing fish without weighing it.

In this regard, article 126 of Law 6/2013, of 7 November, on maritime fishing, shellfishing and aquaculture in the Balearic Islands establishes that it is a very serious infringement to commit three serious infringements in less than 24 months.
As a result of the reported facts, on 22 August 2024,it was agreed to initiate an administrative sanctioning procedure against the interested party for very serious misconduct, which was resolved in January of this year with the payment of the fine by the interested party.
The Councillor for Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment, Joan Simonet, stressed that ‘the Government will continue to carry out control campaigns to ensure compliance with the law on fishing, as well as the regulations related to agri-food products. The main aim is to protect the legitimate interests of the sector and consumers and, at the same time, to prevent fraud and unfair competition.
