Sa Pobla implements strategic projects for the municipality with a grant of more than 3.2 million euros from the Next Generation EU Fund
The councillor stressed that ‘these investments represent a great opportunity to transform Sa Pobla and strengthen its tourism and commercial potential, as well as improving life for residents’. Bauzà also pointed out that ‘these projects not only improve infrastructure, but also promote a model of sustainable tourism that respects the environment and is committed to the well-being of the local community’.
The five projects financed in Sa Pobla thanks to the Next Generation EU Fund are:
Adaptation of the pedestrian walkway and transformation of the Simón Andreu and Cemetery squares (449,566.69€)
Acquisition of the building on Carrer Mercat for municipal services and interpretation centre (664.500,00€)
Modernisation and improvement of accessibility in Carrer Fadrins (652.745,94€)
Extension of the pedestrian area in Comerç Street (1.085.138,45€)
Sponging and beautification work for the creation of a green and rest area in the old Civil Guard barracks (357,455.39€)
Adaptation of the pedestrian walkway and transformation of the Simón Andreu and Cementiri Squares
This project has been divided into three actions. The first has already enabled the adaptation of the 5,013-metre pedestrian walkway, incorporating tree-lined areas, exercise areas and street furniture. The second action has involved the aesthetic and functional improvement of the Simó Andreu square with a new irrigation system and tree planting. The third phase, still in the planning stage, plans to transform the Simó Andreu and Cemetery squares with an increase in the number of trees and the installation of bioclimatic pergolas to create shade and leisure areas.
Acquisition of the building in Mercat Street
With an investment of 664,500€, Sa Pobla has acquired a historic building to respond to the growing need for municipal space. This space will house Social Welfare, Security and Culture services. In addition, there are plans to create an interpretation centre on Sa Marjal and s’Albufera, aimed at disseminating the local natural and gastronomic heritage.
Modernisation and improvement of accessibility in Fadrins Street
This project, endowed with 652,745.94 euros, contemplates the renovation of the promenade to make it accessible to people with reduced mobility. A draining pavement will be installed to encourage water infiltration and a new rest area will be created with vegetation and tree shade. This initiative is part of an overall plan to revitalise the municipality’s commercial and tourist attractions.
Extension of the pedestrian area in Comerç Street
1,085,138.45 will improve the accessibility and safety of this key road, eliminating one direction of traffic to widen pavements and plant deciduous trees. The refurbishment, scheduled to take place between 2024 and 2025, will boost local commerce and increase the attractiveness of the area for tourists.
Creation of a green and rest area in the old Guardia Civil barracks.
This project, with an investment of 357,455.39€, includes the demolition of the old Guardia Civil barracks and the creation of a green space with a children’s play area. The aim is to improve the connection with the centre of Sa Pobla and offer a pleasant environment for residents and visitors.
