Councillor Estarellas presided over the closing ceremony and announced that since the beginning of this legislature, the Pitiusas Islands have had 47 more officers.
A total of 23 officers graduated in the 45th promotion of the Basic Training Course for Local Police that the Government of the Balearic Islands, through the Balearic School of Public Administration (EBAP), has carried out in Ibiza since last May. The Government’s commitment to boosting public safety has made it possible for Ibiza and Formentera to have 47 more police officers since the beginning of the current legislature, mainly as trainees or interim officers.

A total of 23 officers graduate from the 45th class of the Basic Training Course for Local Police in Ibiza
The councillor of the Presidency and Public Administrations, Antònia Maria Estarellas, presided over the closing ceremony of the course held at the Can Ventosa Cultural Space, which was also attended by the director of the EBAP, Violeta Rodríguez, and the director general of Emergencies and the Interior, Pablo Gárriz. Also in attendance were the mayor of Ibiza, Rafael Triguero, and the mayoress of Santa Eulària des Riu, Carmen Ferrer, as well as councillors from the municipalities of Ibiza, the members of the Parliament of the Balearic Islands, Lourdes Cardona and Sandra Palau, and a large representation of the local police forces of Ibiza and Formentera.
Specifically, 23 students from Ibiza and Formentera have graduated, of which 17 have done so through the places offered by the municipalities of Ibiza (8 places), Sant Antoni de Portmany (4), Sant Josep de sa Talaia (2) and Formentera (3). All of them will now begin the second phase of the internship period in each municipality assigned for a minimum of six months and a maximum of one year. The remaining 6 agents who passed the phase of opposition without a place will access, once also passed the course, a single bag of temporary work essential to be able to respond to the needs of the municipalities of the Pitiusas.
The Basic Training Course of Local Police enables these students to be able to work as local police officers. This is a further step to alleviate the lack of personnel, common in all municipalities, but aggravated in the summer months with the start of the high season, when the demand for police personnel in the municipalities is greater. In this way, one of the main measures included in the firm commitment of President Prohens to promote public safety in the municipalities of the islands is fulfilled, favouring the increase in the number of local police forces and promoting the education and training of agents.
Councillor Estarellas stated that the government will continue working to ‘offer our professionals better training and skills and to continue adapting the EBAP training programme to the needs of the municipalities in order to improve the level of public safety on our islands’.
