112 handled more than 800,000 calls and managed a total of 136,154 incidents during 2024
Incidents handled by emergency operators in 2024 increased by 3% compared to 2023 (132,150 incidents), with an average of 373 incidents handled daily. By islands, a total of 109,083 emergencies were handled on Mallorca, 6,538 on Menorca, 19,041 on Ibiza and 1,424 on Formentera. It should be noted that the most common incidents were medical emergencies and consultations, which accounted for 33% of the incidents managed in 2024 (44,993). Behind them, car accidents accounted for 5.1%, fights 4.4%, physical assaults 3.5% and domestic accidents 3%.
112 operators handled an average of 2,254 calls per day, although in July and August, this average increased to 3,032 and 3,144 calls per day, respectively. The month with the fewest daily calls was January, with 1,585.
In terms of languages, 72.33% of the calls handled were in Spanish, 21.28% in Catalan, and the remaining 6.07% in English, German, French and Italian.
Concerning the mobilisation of emergency psychologists to attend to victims and their families, in 2024 they were activated on 289 occasions, almost 27.8% more than the previous year. Specifically, in Mallorca, they intervened in 226 emergencies, in Ibiza in 20, in Menorca in 35 and in Formentera in 8. This is because the allocation of the new agreement signed last June with the College of Psychologists of the Balearic Islands was increased by 54% over the previous one, which means that there are 10 psychology professionals available 24 hours a day in Mallorca, 5 in Menorca, 6 in Ibiza and 3 in Formentera.
Likewise, 112 received a total of 186,416 calls during 2024 that did not require any 112 service, almost 34% less than in 2023. The vast majority of these unsolicited calls were due to dialling errors or were generated by the telephone network itself, although 1,856 of them were pranks by citizens.
It is worth noting that around 60% of incoming calls via mobile phones (only national mobile phones with Android operating system) are already made with AML positioning (advanced mobile location), a technology implemented since 2022 that makes it possible to pinpoint the location of people calling 112 within a radius of between 4 and 20 metres, thanks to the information provided by their mobile phone. With the previous traditional system, the accuracy ranged from approximately 2 to 5 kilometres in urban areas and between 40 and 50 kilometres in mountainous areas.
