Councillor Lafuente stresses the importance of having the opinion of the business sector to ensure the proper development of sailing in the Balearic Islands.
The Councillor for the Sea and Water Cycle, Juan Manuel Lafuente, has met with representatives of the Confederation of Business Associations of the Balearic Islands (CAEB) to address various issues related to the regulation and development of the marine industry in the Balearic Islands, as well as the challenges facing this activity in the current context.

The Government meets with the CAEB to discuss the situation of the marine industry and the challenges it faces
During the meeting, which was also attended by the director general of Ports and Maritime Transport, Antoni Mercant, and the manager of Ports IB, Kiko Villalonga, the future of moorings for charter boats in the community’s directly managed ports and the modification of Decree 21/2017, which regulates the rental of pleasure boats in the Balearic Islands, were discussed. This measure, promoted by the Regional Ministry of the Sea and Water Cycle, represents a change to the current system to guarantee free competition and improve the management of moorings.
Councillor Lafuente underlined the importance of having the opinion of the business sector to ensure that the new regulation is balanced and beneficial to all parties. He also stressed that the tendering process seeks greater transparency and a more equitable distribution of the available places.
The meeting also addressed the updating of Decree 21/2017 to adapt it to the new needs of the sector and to reinforce the security and sustainability of the activity. The government has listened to the CAEB’s concerns and proposals, reaffirming its commitment to work together to ensure effective regulation that is appropriate to the reality of the sector.
The Government will continue to hold meetings with the various stakeholders involved to define the next steps in the regulation of the marine leisure sector in the Balearic Islands.
