The Executive Council of the Council of Eivissa, in a session held on 7 February 2025, agreed to start a participatory process to determine the model for the final treatment of non-hazardous waste on the island of Eivissa.
The initiative, promoted by the Department of Environmental Management of the Consell d’Eivissa, aims to define a new model for the final treatment of waste from the treatment plant, given that the model defined by the current plan, deposit in the controlled landfill of Ca Putxa, has two major limitations to the short life. This decision will condition waste management on the island of Eivissa in the long term and will have important environmental, social and economic repercussions that will directly affect all citizens.

Start the participatory process on the final treatment model for non-hazardous waste in Eivissa
This process is divided into two phases, one aimed at the general public or citizens in general and the other aimed at those members of the public who are considered to be interested parties by waste regulations and the right of access to information and public participation.
The persons or entities considered as interested parties in the process, including public administrations and entities, the business sector, environmental and social entities and political groups, have already been notified and will form a working group that will hold joint working sessions. In these sessions, based on the study of alternatives for domestic waste management facilities on the island of Eivissa drawn up by the Consell de Eivissa in 2021 and the multi-criteria analysis process established for the assessment of the different alternatives, the aim is to identify an optimal solution that maximises the environmental, economic and social benefits and minimise.
Those persons or entities that consider that they have the status of interested persons under current regulations and that have not been notified may request their inclusion as such by writing to the Department of the Environment.
Initially, a consultation mailbox has been set up for the general public, where they can send their opinions, proposals, contributions and/or suggestions. Subsequently, as the working group progresses, a questionnaire will be made available to evaluate the different alternatives and express their opinions. This new phase of participation will be announced in advance.
All the informative documentation of the process and the consultation documentation is now available both on the Council’s transparency portal (https://transparencia.conselldeivissa.es/altra-informacio/processos-exposicio-publica/) and on the website of the environmental management department (https://www.conselldeivissa.es/departamentos/presidencia-y-gestion) elldeivissa.es.
