The President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, stressed the importance of keeping the memory of the conflict alive and continuing to support the Ukrainian people. ‘Mallorca has not remained on the sidelines. We have taken in refugees, we have sent aid and, above all, we have not forgotten that a battle is still being fought in Ukraine,’ said Galmés. He also stressed the need for international organisations to continue working to achieve peace.

The event was attended by the Ukrainian associations Amar Ucraïna and Asociación de Ayuda a Ucrania Familia Ucraniana, which highlighted the solidarity of the Mallorcan people. In addition, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of the victims of the conflict, and various musical pieces were played, including the anthems of Mallorca, Spain and Ukraine.

At the end of the ceremony, the photographic exhibition ‘Por lo que luchamos, por los que luchan’ (‘For what we fight for, for those who fight’) was inaugurated, an exhibition organised by Amar Ucrania which brings together images of the devastating effects of the war. This exhibition will be on display at La Misericòrdia until 8 March. As a symbol of support, the Centre Cultural La Misericòrdia has been illuminated tonight with the colours of the Ukrainian flag.
