The Sports Gala of the Consell de Mallorca will honour four great Mallorcan coaches in its 23rd edition
As a novelty, the Consell will present four tribute awards to great figures in the Mallorcan technical and coaching sphere, who will be present at the gala for their sporting achievements and as a reference for children and young people. These are the Values Award, which will be presented to Kiko Martín; the Lifetime Achievement Award, for Toni Nadal; the Promise Award, for Brigitte Yagüe, and the Excellence Award, for Llorenç Serra Ferrer.
The second vice-president and councillor for the Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports, Pedro Bestard; the island director, Toni Prats, and the coaches Llorenç Serra Ferrer and Brigitte Yagüe attended the presentation ceremony today.
Bestard has valued that ‘when we talk about success in sport, the coach is much more than a transmitter of technique: he is a guide who inspires, models characters and forms resilient people. Their influence transcends sport, instilling values that last’.
‘In this sense, from the Consell we want to pay tribute to the figure of the coach and we vindicate the dedication, passion and leadership because without them sporting and human success would not be possible,’ added the councillor.
Likewise, the institution reported that this is the gala where there have been more podiums than ever: more than 400, achieved by 291 awarded athletes; and it has also been highlighted as a novelty the entry of two new federations in the list of base champions: trotting and weightlifting, which for the first time in history celebrate podiums at the gala.
News 2025: ‘Sport and technology’.
The Consell de Mallorca is dedicating the 23rd Sports Gala 2025 to the theme of ‘Sport and Technology’. In recent years, in fact, Mallorca has made great advances in this sense, a step towards full professionalisation, which has allowed for the improvement of sports practice, facilities and equipment.
Furthermore, the gala will be presented by Toni Terrades and Virginia Quetglas, and the award winners will be accompanied by two luxury sponsors: the canoeist Joan Toni Moreno and the pilot Sonia Ledesma, collaborators in the Consell’s sporting values programmes with schoolchildren.
