On Saturday 22nd March the lighting of up to four emblematic points of the city will be stopped to support this initiative that fights against climate change.
Inca City Council has joined WWF’s ‘Earth Hour’ campaign to raise awareness and fight against climate change. Thus, on Saturday 22nd March from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm, the town hall building in Plaza España will remain unlit, as well as other emblematic points of the city such as Plaza Mallorca, Plaza Mediterrània and Plaza del Blanquer. The aim is to raise awareness among citizens of the need to make efficient and sustainable use of electricity.

Inca joins ‘Earth Hour’
‘It is essential that we all become aware of the importance of making efficient use of resources and reducing our environmental impact. With this symbolic action, we want to remember that every small gesture counts and that together we can all contribute to a more sustainable future, says the councillor for the Environment, Helena Cayetano.
As the organisers of this initiative report, last year was the warmest year on record. This increase in global temperature has resulted in extreme weather events with floods, heat waves and devastating fires becoming more frequent. There is ample evidence of the climate crisis and in this context, Earth Hour provides an opportunity for individuals, associations and organisations around the world to demonstrate their concern about the environmental degradation of the planet (global warming, loss of nature, pollution) and to highlight the need for action.
Earth Hour is a WWF campaign that began in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, as a symbolic gesture in the fight against climate change. Years later, it has become the largest environmental mobilisation campaign in history.
