New call for 4th year ESO students to improve their language skills abroad this summer

Courses abroad

In addition to language immersion programmes in English, French and German are also offered for students in the 4th year of ESO who are studying these languages as an optional subject. This action, 100% subsidised by the Regional Ministry, will enable at least 126 pupils to improve their oral proficiency in these languages. The stays abroad will take place between 1 July and 31 August 2025.

The requirements to participate are: to have been enrolled in a publicly funded educational centre in the Balearic Islands, to have studied 4th year of ESO during the 2024-2025 academic year, to have studied and passed the English, French or German language and not to have been a beneficiary of this programme in the previous academic year. You can only opt for one of the three modalities without the possibility of subsequent modification.

In the case of the English language immersion programme in Ireland or the United Kingdom, there will be 100 grants: 80 for the island of Mallorca, 8 for Menorca and 12 for Eivissa and Formentera.

As for the French language programme in France, there are 6 grants: 3 for Mallorca, 1 for Menorca and 2 for Eivissa and Formentera.

In the case of the immersive German programme in Germany, 20 grants will be allocated: 17 for Mallorca, 1 for Menorca and 2 for Eivissa and Formentera.

All the programmes will last two weeks with a total of 40-50 teaching hours and will be subsidised for travel to and from the course site, transfers from the airport to the accommodation and back, transport in the destination country, the expenses of the tutors-accompanying tutors, complementary activities, accommodation (which will be with host families), meals with full board, teaching materials and insurance.

English for primary school children

The course to improve English for sixth-year primary school pupils will last 10 working days, from Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a total of 50 hours of training, including academic and recreational activities. This initiative is aimed at students who in the 24-25 school year have studied in the sixth year of primary school in publicly funded schools in the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands. A total of 90 places will be offered: 71 for students in Mallorca, 7 in Menorca and 12 in Eivissa and Formentera. The courses in Mallorca will be offered in Palma, Inca and Manacor, and applicants will be able to choose the location.

The grant will cover all expenses derived from the programme (academic and recreational activities), complementary activities and travel expenses, teaching materials, monitors and insurance. The daily transfer and pick-up at the centre where the activities take place will be the responsibility of the families.

Selection criteria

To select the beneficiary candidates for all modalities, the applications from each island will be sorted in alphabetical order of the first surname, followed by the second and the first name of the applicant. Once the applications have been sorted, each will be assigned a consecutive number and a number will be drawn through a digital platform. From this number, grants will be awarded in consecutive order until the places offered are filled.
