The Consell de Mallorca is inaugurating the first edition of the project ‘Noves presències’ at La Misericòrdia. The island institution has been reviving this initiative for years, which will give voice to seven emerging talents in the world of contemporary art each year.

The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, and the vice-president and councillor of Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, toured Palma this morning to see all the proposals that have been set in motion for Art Palma Brunch. Finally, they went to the La Misericòrdia Cultural Centre to inaugurate the ‘Noves Presències’ (New Presences) programme, the star of this year’s edition of the contemporary art event at La Misericòrdia.

The ‘Noves presències’ programme returns to La Misericòrdia

Galmés expressed his satisfaction at the return of this programme, highlighting his commitment to emerging talent and the island’s artistic scene: ‘After years and years without offering opportunities to emerging artists, we are proud to announce the reactivation of the “Noves presències” programme, a programme that discovered many of the current artists on our island’s artistic scene’. The main aim of this initiative is to promote local talent, valuing creativity and allowing new creators to show their potential.

The programme’s exhibition is entitled ‘Noves Presències. Within and Beyond the frame’ gives visibility to seven emerging artists of local contemporary art. Thanks to a collaboration agreement with the Associació de Comissaris i Crítics d’Art de les Illes Balears (ACCAIB), seven artists from Mallorca, including Joan Bonne Maison, Elena Covas López, Marta Crespí, Marga Estelrich, Rebeca Morey Pérez, Nicole Scarpa and Joan Vidal Monserrat, have been selected to participate in this first edition.

The curator Beatriz Escudero has been in charge of supervising the exhibition, creating a diverse and innovative cultural proposal that reflects on the multiple materialities and contemporary artistic practices.

In addition to ‘Noves Presències. Dins i més enllà del marc’, the Consell de Mallorca has organised four more exhibitions at the Centro Cultural La Misericòrdia for the Art Palma Brunch. Three proposals can be visited in the adjoining rooms of the Aljibe: ‘Matèria Primera’ by Marcos Torandell, ‘Estraperlo’ by Sofia Binimelis and ‘Visions Filades’ by Llorenç Garrit, and the fourth in the chapel of the cultural centre: ‘La memòria del temps’, by Patxi Echeverria.

All the exhibitions can be visited at the La Misericòrdia Cultural Centre from 22nd March to 22nd May, from Monday to Friday, from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00, except on public holidays.
