The Regional Ministry of Education and Universities and the Works Council of Religion teachers have reached a significant agreement that also affects specialist teachers, experts from the production sector and British Council advisors.
This agreement ensures that non-university public education staff employed by the Regional Ministry of Education and Universities are treated equally in terms of professional development and pay compared to their teaching counterparts.

Agreement for the equalisation of Religious teaching staff and employment staff
This development recognises the importance of encouraging the updating and professional development of these public employees.
As a result, the amounts paid to these teachers of religion, specialists, experts from the productive sector and British Council advisers will be comparable to those paid to civil servants at the same level of education.
It is important to remember that, although the Agreement of the Consell de Govern of 15 May 2023 established the bases for the professional career calls for civil servant teaching staff, this did not apply to teaching staff in employment, including teachers of religion.
Following an appeal by the religion teachers’ collective, the High Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands (TSJIB) ruled in favour of religion teachers, recognising their right to receive the same conditions and amounts as interim career civil servants.
In response to this ruling and in a spirit of collaboration, the Regional Ministry of Education and Universities and the Works Council of Religion teachers have agreed on the need to establish a basic agreement for the development of the professional career.
This agreement envisages the implementation of the approved economic effects in three tranches. The first of these will take effect in May 2024, with retroactive effect from 1 January 2024.
The agreement was signed today by the councillor for Education and Universities, Antoni Vera, and the representative of the works council of religion teachers, Rocío Martínez.
