From Monday, municipal and regional taxes can be paid by choosing amounts and days of payment
Costa: ‘This is a new step to facilitate the relationship between citizens and the administration’.

In 2024, the ATIB managed the collection of more than two million bills in the voluntary period

The Tax Agency of the Balearic Islands (ATIB) will allow, from next Monday 7 April, flexible payment of bills corresponding to municipal and regional taxes.
In this way, citizens will be able to pay, for example, their road tax by choosing the amount and day of collection or even by paying the instalment throughout the year when and how it suits them best.

The ATIB will facilitate the payment of bills using flexible payment

The vice-president and councillor for Economy, Finance and Innovation, Antoni Costa, today presented the programme ‘Flexible payment of bills: choose the amount and the day’, at an event held at Palma City Hall, which was also attended by the tax administrator of the ATIB, Alberto Roibal, and the councillor for Finance, Public Function and Internal Government of Palma City Council, Mercedes Celeste.

‘This new programme aims to make it easier to pay municipal and regional tax bills in the voluntary period and is a new step by the ATIB to facilitate the relationship between citizens and the administration, which joins many others such as payment with Bizum, for example,’ explained Costa.

The new programme facilitates the payment of municipal taxes that are collected periodically by receipt, such as property tax (IBI), the tax on economic activities (IAE), the tax on mechanical traction vehicles, municipal taxes – treatment and collection of rubbish or waste, water supply, sewerage, fords, etc. -.

The ATIB manages the collection of these taxes in 52 municipalities of the Balearic Islands, the Consell Insular de Formentera, the Consell Insular de Mallorca (tax for annual registration of private hunting grounds) and the Mancomunidad de Migjorn de Mallorca (tax for the provision of inter-municipal drinking water supply services).
Likewise, flexible payment will also be used for the payment of receipts corresponding to the regional tax on tourist stays in tourist homes and campsites.

Flexible payment allows taxpayers to plan the payment of their regular municipal taxes by bill and to choose the amount and day of payment within the corresponding voluntary payment period.

Flexible payment allows taxpayers to plan the payment of their regular municipal taxes by bill and to choose the amount and day of payment within the corresponding voluntary payment period.

Taxpayers can pay the full amount of the bill or make partial or advance payments of the amount, whether or not it is paid by direct debit to a bank. To do so, they can enter the Virtual Postman – which is available at the ATIB’s electronic headquarters, www.atib.es- and can be accessed with the ATIB taxpayer code and also with a digital certificate, electronic ID card or Cl@ve.

In the case of bills that are not paid by direct debit, it will be possible to pay the total amount of the bill (single payment), partial payments or payments in advance of the amount of the bill (payment in advance), as well as to arrange for the payment(s) to be charged to a bank account. ‘It is like a tax current account. For example, a taxpayer can start paying the IBI this Monday when it suits him, in the amount that suits him at the time and in the way that suits him. He can pay 100 euros on Monday, 50 the following Friday and the rest of the amount when he receives the extra, for example,’ said Costa, who stressed that through this programme, “the ATIB adapts to the payment possibilities of taxpayers so that they can meet their respective tax obligations in a more convenient and personalised way”.

In 2024, the ATIB managed the voluntary collection of 2,077,218 receipts corresponding to 627,564 taxpayers, for a total amount of 492.5 million euros.
In the case of Palma, as the councillor Celeste pointed out, there are 846,062 receipts from 289,393 taxpayers for a value of 192 million euros.ión of a new irrigation system, renovation of vertical signage, horizontal signage and beaconing in the area.
