The operation will continue provisionally by the current concessionaire, with public control over tariffs, conditions and priority for users based in the port.

The Board of Directors of Ports de les Illes Balears (PortsIB), which met yesterday, has approved the conditions that will govern the management of the marina of Cala’n Bosch (Menorca) as of 3rd May, the date on which the administrative concession in force since 1995 comes to an end. The current concessionaire will continue to provide the port service on a provisional basis until a new concession is awarded, with a maximum term of one year.

PortsIB guarantees the continuity of the port service in Cala’n Bosch under-regulated and supervised conditions

In this context, and given certain information published in the last few hours which could lead to confusion about the future management of the port, PortsIB considers it necessary to clarify that this continuity in management will be developed under a series of prescriptions expressly regulated by the public entity itself, to guarantee the general interest, protecting the rights of users and ensuring the stability of the service.

The main measures agreed by the Board of Directors are:

Priority for vessels based in the port, which will be able to maintain their current moorings.

Establishment of maximum rates, which will be set directly by PortsIB according to the new provisional management situation.
Determination of the occupation and use fee, also under the supervision of PortsIB.
It is also reminded that any controversy that may arise during this period will be resolved by PortsIB, as the competent authority. In this way, any unilateral action by the current concessionaire is avoided and it is guaranteed that the transitional management will be in line with legal and equity principles.

PortsIB continues to work on the procedure for awarding a new concession, under the principles of competition, equality and transparency, to guarantee a sustainable port management model oriented towards public service.
