The Regional Ministry of Health promotes health research with the first call for training grants for non-doctoral research staff

In a historic commitment to strengthen research in health and biomedicine in the Balearic Islands, the Government has launched the first call for applications to combine healthcare practice with research. This initiative represents a turning point in the research career of health personnel and reinforces its commitment to innovation and scientific excellence in the public health system.

These grants are part of the Balearic Islands Health Research and Innovation Strategy 2023-2027 and their main objective is to promote the training and professionalisation of researchers, foster scientific vocation and increase the critical mass of professionals dedicated to R&D&I in the health sector. In addition, the selected projects will receive 60% co-funding from the European Union through the ESF+ Programme.

With this call, the Government is determined to take a step forward and contribute to the recruitment costs incurred by health and biomedical research and health centres in the Balearic Islands to incorporate young researchers and health personnel, and to complete the first stage of research training, as well as doctoral studies and the preparation of theses, and ultimately increase the number of doctoral personnel in the field of health and health.

Two modalities to promote health research

The call offers two different modalities to adapt to the needs of the sector:

Modality 1 (PFIS-CAIB): Pre-doctoral contracts for training in health research, with a maximum duration of four years, aimed at young researchers in research and biomedical centres.

Modality 2 (PFIC-CAIB): Contracts for clinical research staff in training, with a duration of three years, for professionals who have completed their specialised health training from 2022 to 2025 and who wish to combine care with research. The contracts of this modality 2 will be funded 50% by the Conselleria and Ibsalut.
This call is aimed at accredited health research institutes, public health entities with healthcare activities, research organisations, universities and non-profit organisations in biomedicine and health.

A step forward for research and public health

With this measure, the Government reaffirms its commitment to the development of scientific knowledge and the improvement of healthcare. This pioneering model makes it possible to generate research hypotheses from healthcare practice and to transfer the results of research directly to patients, thus improving the quality and efficiency of the public health system.
