The Balearic Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, visited the ongoing redevelopment works of the Magaluf seafront promenade this Monday, accompanied by Spain’s Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu. The project is funded by the European Union under the National Tourism Sustainability Plan.
Bauzà emphasized the significance of this public infrastructure initiative, noting that it complements and elevates the private investment already made by local hotel owners in recent years.
“What we want to do today is send a strong message to the hotel sector: just as they once took the lead in upgrading their establishments, it is now the turn of public institutions to take a decisive step in enhancing the quality of both the destination and its surroundings,” said Bauzà.
He also confirmed that the Sustainable Tourism Tax is expected to finance the second phase of the promenade upgrade. “The key is to add value to the destination. Together—with the Spanish government, the regional government, and the municipality—we aim to improve the area through public initiatives that align with private sector efforts,” he added.
The original promenade, built in 1990, was the first to connect the full stretch of Magaluf beach. The current project seeks to modernize this mature tourism zone, which is undergoing an extensive transformation led by both public and private stakeholders.
