Next Saturday 12th April at 6 pm, the Teatro Principal is holding the Easter Concert dedicated to the work Messe Solennelle de Saint Cécile, by Charles Gounod, in the main hall of Palma’s Teatro Principal. A recital of sacred music performed by the Academia 1830 orchestra; the Choir of the Teatro Principal, with Francesc Bonnín as chief conductor; and the soloists Mar Morán, Francisco Fernández-Rueda, Enric Martínez-Castignani and Mar Campo, under the musical direction of Fernando Marina. The concert will be held in a second session on Sunday 13th April at 7.30 p.m. in the Convent de Sant Francesc de Paula de Campos.

Gounod stars in the Easter Concert at Palma’s Teatro Principal
The French composer Charles Gounod and his work Messe Solennelle de Sainte Cécile, which premiered for the first time in the church of Saint-Eustache in Paris on 22nd November 1855, the day of Saint Cecilia, will be the protagonists of the concert. A very popular piece of music that was performed in the main European cities, thus increasing its popularity.

Charles Gounod (1818-1893) is widely recognised for his outstanding operas, such as Faust and Roméo et Juliette. The latter was performed in Palma’s Teatro Principal last May, offering audiences the chance to see the opera in its entirety.
