The new resolution makes the educational stages more flexible to guarantee more personalised attention.

Schools will have a clear procedure and individualised monitoring for each student.

The Regional Ministry of Education and Universities has updated the procedure for making the duration of the educational stages of students with high intellectual abilities in the Balearic Islands more flexible. This measure, approved by the Directorate General for Early Childhood, Attention to Diversity and Educational Improvement, modernises and regulates the process for authorising these academic adjustments.

The main objective is to offer more personalised educational attention adapted to the needs of students with high abilities, favouring their integral development and promoting their talents. In this way, it is guaranteed that age is not an obstacle to their academic progress.

Educació updates the procedure for adapting the duration of the educational stages for highly gifted pupils

The new resolution is in line with the guidelines of the Organic Law on Education and the regional decrees that regulate school curricula. Flexibilisation can be applied at any educational stage, from primary to baccalaureate, as long as the established pedagogical and administrative criteria are met.

This is a step forward in inclusion and educational equity. It is not only about accelerating the pace of learning but also about ensuring that highly able pupils can grow up in environments that stimulate their curiosity and creativity, with the support of both schools and families.

The new procedure establishes that flexibilisation can only be applied when ordinary educational actions are not sufficient. In addition, it will be necessary for the teaching team to accredit that the pupil has achieved the objectives and competencies of the level he or she wishes to advance. It will also require the consensus of two-thirds of the educational team and the approval of the families.

The resolution establishes the deadlines and procedures for submitting applications, which can be made between 1 April and 31 May. In the case of a change of centre, the deadline is 30 April.

Institutional support for quality education

The regulation strengthens the role of the High Intellectual Ability Team (EACI), which must intervene before approving the flexibilisation in public schools. In addition, it provides for individualised monitoring and continuous evaluation to ensure that the measure really benefits students.

Finally, the resolution leaves the previous regulations of 2017 without effect, adapting the procedure to the current educational reality and responding to the needs of professionals in the centres.

With this initiative, the Regional Ministry of Education and Universities reaffirms its commitment to inclusive and quality education, where diversity is considered a richness and resources are adapted to ensure the best development of all students.
