Today, the XIX Jornada de Coordinación de Trasplante de las Illes Balears (19th Transplant Coordination Conference of the Balearic Islands) took place at the Hospital Can Misses (Ibiza). The event was inaugurated by the director general of the Health Service, Javier Ureña, and was attended by nearly one hundred healthcare professionals.
This CONFERENCE aims to provide healthcare professionals with the best possible knowledge of the process of organ and tissue donation and transplantation, as well as to raise awareness of the importance of donation and the therapeutic and social benefits associated with it.
In the balance of activity in 2024, the Autonomous Transplant Coordination of the Balearic Islands (CATIB) noted that 21 of the 57 donors (more than a third) donated in asystole, a technique that allows organ donation in cardiorespiratory arrest and which was implemented in public hospitals in the Balearic Islands in 2016 to optimise organ donation. The remaining 36 were brain-death donors. It should be noted that, of the total number of donors, fifteen were foreigners and one was a paediatric donor.
