Inca City Council continues to advance in its commitment to sustainability and environmental protection through various actions financed with European Next Generation EU funds. Within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and supported by the grant for the implementation of waste regulations and the promotion of the circular economy in the Balearic Islands, the council has launched a series of projects to improve waste management and promote sustainable habits among citizens.

Among the most outstanding actions is the acquisition of a high-efficiency electric bio-shredder, which will be installed in the area of the urban gardens of Serral de Ses Monges. This new tool will make it possible to transform vegetable waste into quality compost for reuse as natural fertiliser, thus promoting composting and closing the cycle of organic materials.

In addition, the City Council has also purchased 700 120-litre containers and 7,000 10-litre bins to optimise the selective collection of biowaste. The larger bins have been targeted at establishments, such as shops cafés, and businesses. Moreover, the bins were distributed to households that had bins and now have door-to-door bins to boost the collection of the organic fraction.

These measures have been accompanied by a public awareness campaign to promote the correct separation of the organic fraction and encourage a culture of reduction, reuse and recycling. The initiative has included informative actions, control activities and monitoring of the service to ensure the maximum efficiency of the system implemented.

All these actions are part of the Action Plan for the Implementation of the Spanish Circular Economy Strategy (EEEC) and respond to the objectives set by Law 8/2019, on waste and contaminated soils of the Balearic Islands, which establishes the goal of reaching 55% of selective collection5 by the year 2003.

With this set of initiatives, Inca reaffirms its commitment to a more sustainable, efficient and environmentally friendly city model, consolidating its leadership in the transition towards a circular economy and more responsible waste management.

Finally, it should be noted that to develop these actions, Inca Town Council has received a grant of 59,535.00 euros from the Regional Ministry of Enterprise, Employment and Energy, to support the implementation of waste regulations in the Balearic Islands, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union-Next Generation EU.
