Telecommunication problems mainly affect mobile networks; Emergencies recommend establishing personal connections via cable or Wi-Fi.
The Balearic Islands are experiencing intermittent telecommunications issues caused by network saturation due to a power outage on the Spanish mainland. This is creating instability, especially within mobile phone networks. Therefore, the Directorate General for Emergencies and Interior recommends establishing personal connections through cable or Wi-Fi whenever possible. In case of an emergency — including health emergencies — citizens are advised to call 112, as direct connection to 061 emergency health services may also be disrupted.

The Balearic Islands Experience Intermittent Telecommunications Issues Due to Power Failure on the Mainland; Emergencies Raise PLATERBAL to Level 1
At present, the President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Marga Prohens, has chaired the technical coordination and monitoring meeting regarding the situation. During the meeting, it was decided to raise the Territorial Civil Protection Plan of the Balearic Islands (PLATERBAL) to Level 1 and to convene the technical advisory committee. The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Presidency and Public Administrations, Antònia Maria Estarellas; the Director General for Emergencies and Interior, Pablo Gárriz; and the rest of his team.
The Directorate General for Emergencies and Interior has strengthened critical connection points through the Balearic Autonomous Community’s own emergency communications system, TETRAIB. This ensures the link between the National Police, Civil Guard, SAMU061 emergency services, local police forces, civil protection volunteer groups, island councils, municipalities, and other security and emergency services.
The Directorate for Emergencies thanks citizens for their cooperation and their responsibility in restricting non-essential travel.
