The Ministry of Business, Employment, and Energy allocates €2.8 million this year to help participants obtain professional nautical qualifications while combining paid employment with vocational training
More than 600 people are participating in activities organised by the Employment Service of the Balearic Islands (SOIB) at the Palma International Boat Show to raise awareness of the professional opportunities in the nautical industry.
During the first three months of 2025, the SOIB has already managed over 150 positions in employment and dual training programs within the nautical sector. The agency, which operates under the Ministry of Business, Employment, and Energy, has been working for over five years through its Nautical Division to promote career opportunities in this industry, recognised as a strategic sector for the Balearic Islands’ economy. Specifically, 72 job placements have been managed with a 40% coverage rate, and 82 dual training positions with a 90% coverage rate. Additionally, SOIB’s career guidance service has offered individualised support to 56 people during this period.

SOIB Manages Over 150 Jobs and Dual Training Opportunities in the Nautical Sector During the First Quarter of 2025
Through its Nautical Division, SOIB collaborates with companies to identify training needs and promote job prospects in the sector. The ultimate goal is to develop a pool of new professionals for an industry that generates €1.106 billion in revenue and supports 5,145 jobs, according to data from the Balearic Marine Cluster, which actively collaborates with SOIB.
For the year 2025, SOIB has allocated €2,817,414.26 to fund seven projects in which more than 140 participants will gain professional certification through dual training contracts lasting 12 months. This hiring modality allows participants to combine paid employment with vocational training under the framework of the professional training and work-based learning system. The projects are carried out by training institutions and 61 private companies in the nautical sector. Available professional certifications include:
- Auxiliary maintenance operations for systems and equipment on leisure boats
- Auxiliary activities and port vessel support
- Painting, repair, and construction of fibre-reinforced plastic components for leisure boats
- Auxiliary maintenance of structural elements and surface coatings on recreational boats
To showcase all these opportunities and bring the nautical sector closer to the public, SOIB is once again participating in the Palma International Boat Show, held at El Moll Vell until May 3. The Employment Service of the Balearic Islands and the Directorate General for Vocational Training and Educational Planning are present at the show with an information booth and a program of activities. These include:
- A special day for guidance staff from secondary schools, POAP offices, and SOIB’s territorial and sector offices
- Visits by students from vocational training centres and secondary schools
- A roundtable discussion on the present and future of nautical training in the Balearic Islands
In total, 638 people will take part in SOIB’s activities at the Palma International Boat Show.
