A new TetraIB network antenna has been activated in the municipality of Alaró, providing full coverage across the area for the first time. This infrastructure significantly enhances the operational capacity of local security and emergency services, addressing a longstanding demand from the community.
The initiative is part of a strategic plan by the Balearic Government to deploy over 40 TetraIB antennas across the islands within the next three years. Despite Alaró’s relatively small population of 5,500, its tourist appeal and regular public events often multiply the number of people in town, especially during key periods like Holy Week.
An institutional visit marked the activation of the antenna, during which local officials and technicians verified the performance of the new system and detailed plans for its permanent installation. This includes backup battery systems to ensure up to 20 hours of uninterrupted operation in the event of a power outage, and the capability to connect portable generators if needed.

“This isn’t just about switching on an antenna—we’re reinforcing the safety of an entire town,” said a project representative. The installation was prioritised to be fully operational before Holy Week, meeting deadlines through coordinated efforts and technical precision.
Until now, Alaró relied on temporary mobile stations for major events to ensure communication among police and civil protection services. With the new fixed antenna installed atop the town hall building—chosen for its architectural sensitivity despite not being the technically ideal location—the municipality gains permanent, autonomous, and reliable communication capabilities.
In the coming days, Alaró’s Local Police will integrate into the TetraIB network for all daily communications, which will improve coordination with other emergency services and boost overall response capacity. “This infrastructure gives us greater security, smoother communication, and better coordination. It’s a significant step forward,” said the local police chief.
This installation is part of a €13 million investment project, co-financed by European FEDER funds, aimed at strengthening critical public communications across the Balearic archipelago. The Alaró antenna follows similar deployments in Artà and Sant Llorenç, furthering the goal of achieving full coverage across all municipalities.
During the visit, officials also highlighted a new agreement with local municipalities that facilitates access to communication services, including terminal loans, technical support, and mobile station deployment during high-demand periods or emergencies.
Finally, a new line of collaboration was announced to assess coverage in the popular natural area of Castell d’Alaró, where past incidents have raised safety concerns. Field surveys will be conducted to identify signal gaps and evaluate potential solutions.
With the Alaró antenna now active, the regions of Llevant and Raiguer take a significant step toward comprehensive and resilient network coverage. The TetraIB network continues expanding, coordinating municipalities, reinforcing inter-agency response, and building a modern model of public safety.
