Dr. Mª Rocío de Haro Beltrán, formerly of the General Hospital of Elda (Alicante), has joined the Medical Oncology Service of the Ibiza and Formentera Health Area, restoring the team to five oncologists.

Dr. de Haro earned her medical degree from the University of Granada and specialised in Medical Oncology at Reina Sofía University Hospital in Córdoba. She also holds a master’s degree in Translational Biomedical Research from the University of Córdoba.

Her arrival fills the gap left by Dr. Julio Linares, who departed earlier this year, and marks a milestone in the ongoing efforts of the Health Area to strengthen the oncology team. In June 2023, the service had only one active oncologist, Dr. Carlos Rodríguez Franco, head of the department. During that time, the centre relied heavily on collaboration with oncology departments at Son Espases and Son Llàtzer University Hospitals, as well as the Internal Medicine Service at Can Misses Hospital.

Fifth Oncologist

After the Balearic Government declared oncology positions as hard-to-fill in October 2023, the team gradually began to rebuild:

  • Dr. Urbicio Pérez joined in October 2023
  • Dr. Blanca Sánchez Lafuente in November
  • Dr. Diego Iglesias in December
  • Dr. Julio Linares had previously joined in July 2024

As of today, and coinciding with the first anniversary of the current management team of the Ibiza and Formentera Health Area, the Medical Oncology Service has expanded from one to five specialists, reflecting a significant strengthening of cancer care services.
