The facility began operating on April 30 and has already served over a hundred users who no longer need to travel to Can Misses Hospital
An investment of €232,320 (VAT included) covered the acquisition of the equipment, room adaptation, and staff training.
The radiology room at the Sant Antoni de Portmany Health Centre began operations on April 30, following the completion of training for the team responsible for delivering this new service—senior technicians in diagnostic imaging and nuclear medicine.
This is the first radiology room to be launched in the primary care centres of the Health Area of Ibiza and Formentera. The installed equipment, representing a total investment of €232,320 (VAT included), is a Fujifilm FDR SMART X general radiology system with ceiling-suspended synchronisation.

Radiology Room at Sant Antoni de Portmany Health Centre Welcomes Its First Patients
The radiology room will operate in both morning and afternoon shifts (from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM) to meet the demand for scheduled and urgent imaging tests. In any case, its operating hours will be adjusted according to actual demand. During its first three days of operation, the room already served around one hundred users, sparing them the need to travel to Can Misses Hospital.
The Minister of Health, Manuela García, visited the Sant Antoni de Portmany Health Centre, accompanied by the Health Area Manager, Enrique Garcerán, and the Primary Care Medical Director, Judith Frías. During the visit to the radiology room, the minister learned all the technical details from biomedical engineer Marta Suárez and Alberto Muñoz, the engineer in charge of the adaptation works.
The Sant Antoni de Portmany Health Centre offers a primary care emergency service. The launch of its radiology room will help reduce the scheduled workload of the Imaging Diagnostic Service at Can Misses Hospital, avoid thousands of patient transfers, and provide an efficient and safe diagnostic tool for both family and community doctors, as well as emergency care doctors (SUAP).
Currently, the Sant Antoni de Portmany Health Centre has 29,919 registered users. Considering that in 2024 the Radiology Service at Can Misses performed 4,235 X-rays for patients from Sant Antoni de Portmany, the opening of this new facility is expected to progressively eliminate around 4,000 referrals to the public hospital, helping to reduce its waiting lists.
Over Five Million Euros Invested in Medical Technology in 2024
In addition to enabling the new radiology room at the Sant Antoni de Portmany Health Centre, the Balearic Islands Health Service invested more than five million euros in technology in 2024. A total of €5,117,630 was allocated to improve and renew the technology infrastructure and facilities of the Health Area of Ibiza and Formentera, aiming to provide increasingly safe, efficient, and satisfactory healthcare services to users.
