La Coma Begins: The New Festival of Literature and Contemporary Thought by the Consell de Mallorca

Es Baluard will host the opening day of this new festival on Thursday, May 8.

La Coma is a literary festival that creates a space for contemporary dialogue and reflection. In its first edition, it brings together some of the most prominent voices in today’s literary scene. Writers and communicators such as Jeanette Winterson, Sara Torres, Katixa Agirre, Íngrid Guardiola, Laura Sam, and Mar Coll will meet at La Coma to explore a theme dedicated to the body and what lies beyond.

La Coma Begins

The theme will be explored through various perspectives, with over 30 renowned authors participating in this first edition. Highlights include the opening keynote by British author Jeanette Winterson, a major figure in contemporary narrative whose work sheds light on the darker aspects of the human condition and its relationship with technological advances. Winterson, author of Written on the Body, Frankenstein, and the essay 12 Bytes, will deliver the inaugural lecture. Her talk will be preceded by a presentation by writer and humanist Íngrid Guardiola, author of The Eye and the Blade: The World as Interface, among other works.

The last few available seats for the opening evening include Andrea Cruz’s performance Tales of the Body, and a concert by Amanda Mur.
Events begin on Thursday, May 8, at 6:00 PM at Es Baluard Museum, and continue on Friday, May ,9 throughout the day at the same venue.
The program for Saturday, May 1,0, will take place at various locations in the Casa Llorenç Villalonga – Literary Museum in Binissalem.

La Coma’s activities will include lectures, seminars, and discussions, as well as workshops, readings, and performances. Notable events include the play King Kong Theory, based on Virginie Despentes’ book; Amanda Mur’s concert; Andrea Cruz’s performance Tales of the Body; and the poetry slam Poesía o nunca by poet Laura Sam.
