Call Open to Participate in a European Training Program Specialising in Documentary Cinema
The training will take place in Palma from June 16 to 20, 2025. During the various scheduled activities, the selected Balearic participants will engage with the 18 European filmmakers chosen by the renowned Czech Republic-based festival. Alongside Mallorcan filmmaker Miguel Eek, who is already part of this distinguished group, participants from the archipelago will gain an in-depth understanding of the film market and take part in professional workshops organised by the Ji.hlava IDFF. The ultimate goal of the program is to increase the potential for future European co-productions.
The call is open to both producers and directors. To be eligible for selection, candidates must meet three main criteria:
- A minimum of three years of experience in the local film market, along with professional growth potential and the ambition to actively engage with the European market.
- At least one feature-length or mid-length documentary that has been commercially distributed in cinemas and screened at festivals. Although documentaries will be prioritised, fiction or hybrid films will also be considered.
- Proficiency in English, as all activities will be conducted in this language.
The deadline to apply is May 18, 2025, inclusive. To apply, interested candidates must email two separate documents (in English) to the ICIB at info@icib.caib.es:
- A brief presentation including their filmography, current projects in development, and contact information.
- A motivation letter outlining their experience with different forms of film distribution, and including any questions or reflections on the future of film distribution. The letter should also demonstrate their commitment to and passion for auteur cinema.
It is also important to note that all meals during the official event schedule will be covered for the selected participants. In addition, those residing in Menorca, Ibiza, or Formentera will have their accommodation costs covered by the ICIB for the duration of the program.
