The first edition of the award will coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Sobrasada de Mallorca Protected Geographical Indication (PGI)
The Consell de Mallorca will present the first Sobrasada de Oro Award for Excellence in Mallorca at an event marking the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) for this emblematic product of the island’s culture and gastronomy. The official ceremony will be held on May 15 at Can Tàpera and reflects the island institution’s strong commitment to this traditional product.

The Sobrasada de Oro Award for Excellence in Mallorca
The Department of Economic Promotion and Local Development, in collaboration with the PGI Sobrasada de Mallorca, will host the first edition of the Sobrasada de Oro Awards to recognize individuals or entities who, through their work or life, embody the essence of Mallorca: passion for roots, tradition, love of the land, dedication, and quality, particularly about this typical Mallorcan product.
The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, will present the award at the event, which will bring together producers, artisans, and representatives of the primary sector associated with sobrasada and committed to quality.
For her part, the Minister of Economic Promotion and Local Development, Pilar Amate, praised “the important work carried out by the PGI Sobrasada de Mallorca, respecting both tradition and quality of the raw material and the production processes. So much so, that we can proudly hold up sobrasada as a flagship product of Mallorcan gastronomic culture.”
30 Years of Commitment to Quality
The event also celebrates the 30th anniversary of Sobrasada de Mallorca receiving PGI status. Thanks to this quality seal, sobrasada is recognized by the European Union as an agricultural and food product with distinct characteristics and reputation, and enjoys legal protection against imitations and misuse, both within the EU and in third countries.
