Cristina Martínez, Manager of the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands (OSIB), also commented that this is not only an artistic achievement, but an opportunity “to project our cultural talent to the world. It is another step in consolidating the OSIB project and its image as the leading cultural institution of the Balearic Islands.”
OSIB’s principal conductor, Pablo Mielgo, expressed his pride in closing the orchestral season of the Italian Orchestras Foundation at such a prestigious venue: “It is an honor for us as an orchestra—and for me as conductor—to conclude this cycle at such a legendary venue as Sala Verdi in Milan.” He also highlighted that performing a repertoire that is deeply rooted in their identity yet internationally appreciated ensures the artistic success of the orchestra.
Pianist Davide Cabassi will be the soloist in Nights in the Gardens of Spain by Manuel de Falla. He made his debut at the age of thirteen with the RAI Symphony Orchestra in Milan, performing Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2 under the baton of Vladimir Delman. This debut marked the beginning of a brilliant solo career that has led him to perform with some of the world’s top orchestras, including the Münchner Philharmoniker, La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra, Russian Chamber Orchestra, and Magdeburg Philharmoniker, among many others. He has collaborated with renowned conductors such as Gustav Kuhn, James Conlon, Daniele Gatti, and Asher Fisch.
He has performed in Italy’s most prestigious venues such as the Società del Quartetto, Serate Musicali, and Società dei Concerti. His international acclaim has taken him across 35 U.S. states, as well as to China and Japan, with appearances at renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Rachmaninoff Hall in Moscow, and the Mozarteum in Salzburg. A passionate chamber musician, Cabassi founded the Baggio Sinfonietta in 2018 and has an extensive repertoire, including numerous contemporary compositions written especially for him.
