Thanks to the new scheduling of training courses by EBAP, for the first time, officers will be available before the start of the summer season.
Starting this June, Mallorca, Menorca, and Ibiza will benefit from the deployment of more than 100 new local police officers. These agents will join municipal forces after completing the Basic Training Course (46th promotion), organised by the Government of the Balearic Islands through the Balearic School of Public Administration (EBAP). This early deployment allows municipalities to strengthen their police forces just before the high-demand summer season begins.
This marks the first time that municipalities have been able to incorporate new officers before the summer, a milestone made possible by the Government’s efforts to align the course schedule with the real needs of local councils. The course began in October in both Mallorca and Menorca, allowing it to conclude in May and making it possible to assign new agents to local authorities for their practical training phase starting in June.

The Balearic Government Will Provide Over 100 New Local Police Officers to Municipalities in Mallorca, Menorca, and Ibiza Starting in June
Violeta Rodríguez, Director of EBAP, announced the end of the training course today, noting:
“Since the beginning of the legislature, we identified one of our biggest challenges as expanding training and development strategies for Local Police. When we took office, most municipalities reported serious inherited deficiencies,” referring to the previous lack of synchronisation in course timelines, which often ended after the summer, when demand for officers peaks.
Rodríguez added: “We are very pleased to have achieved and fulfilled our objectives.”
Once the list of successful candidates is published at the end of May, municipalities will be able to contact those who passed the training course at EBAP to begin their practical placements.
The 46th promotion of the Basic Local Police Training Course aims to cover 111 positions across various municipalities:
- 92 positions in Mallorca,
- 18 in Menorca,
- 1 in Ibiza.
Candidates who passed the competitive examination but did not obtain a fixed position and completed the course will be added to the regional pool of interim officers, making them available to municipalities across all islands.
EBAP also emphasised that during the course, beyond technical and policing content, instructors assessed key competencies such as public safety, community engagement, and the trust that officers must build with citizens — elements that contribute to safer environments, crime prevention, and effective incident response.
Additionally, Rodríguez highlighted another first: to better meet local needs, the training in Mallorca was delivered in two groups — Palma and Part Forana (rural municipalities). Officers from Part Forana also served as instructors, recognising that the realities of rural municipalities differ significantly from those of Palma or other cities.
