The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, chaired the Balearic Sports and Physical Activity Assembly this Tuesday, a consultative body representing all stakeholders in the sports sector of the Balearic Islands. The session took place in the assembly hall of Can Campaner (Palma) and included wide institutional, federative, and technical representation from the sports community.
The event was attended by political representatives from the four Island Councils (Consells Insulars), technical staff from the General Directorate of Sports, members of the Balearic Sports Foundation, and representatives from COLEF, FELIB, the Balearic Sports Tribunal, as well as clubs, federations, universities, and associations such as AGEPIB.
During his speech, Minister Bauzà expressed the honour of chairing the assembly and reviewed commitments made in previous sessions: the reform of the Sports Law and the definition of a new model for the Sports Technification Centre (CTEIB). He announced that nearly 40 sports federations have already renewed their boards and extended congratulations to the new presidents. He also mentioned that the new CTEIB model will be presented soon, the result of collaborative work led by manager Eladi Huertas.

Balearic Sports Assembly Meets with the Sector to Discuss Its Challenges
Focus on Labour Inspections and Volunteering
The extraordinary assembly highlighted a growing concern: labour inspections at sports entities. Although this is not a direct competence of the regional government, Bauzà emphasised the need to address this issue in coordination with the sector.
The Minister expressed his gratitude to the Balearic Islands Volunteering Platform, represented by Margalida Gayà, and to Carlos Martín, president of the UFEC, for bringing clarity and experience to a long-standing issue that affects grassroots sports. The assembly emphasised the need for a special regulatory framework for the sports sector that recognises its unique characteristics and the altruistic work of thousands of volunteers.
It was also announced that the General Directorate of Sports is working on a management manual for sports clubs and on training support for directors and managers. These tools will soon be discussed with the Island Councils and federations.
Proposal for Tax Deductions on Sports Practice
During the session, the Minister reported that, in collaboration with COLEF Balearic Islands, the government has prepared a proposal for personal income tax (IRPF) deductions for families investing in sports services and activities. Similar measures are already in place in regions such as La Rioja, Murcia, and the Valencian Community.
The proposed deductions aim to promote universal access to physical activity, with potential rebates of up to 100% of the cost, capped at €300 per household.
Bauzà underlined that sports are a key tool for the physical, emotional, and social well-being of citizens, and also a smart investment in public health: “The more we invest in sports, the more we save on healthcare costs.”
