The Minister of Tourism of the Consell de Mallorca, José Marcial Rodríguez Díaz, held a meeting this Friday with representatives of the island’s leading agricultural and livestock associations, where he conveyed the island authority’s commitment to promoting local Mallorcan products.
Attendees from the sector included Jerónima Bonafé (Agri-food Cooperatives), Onofre Fullana (APAEMA), Joan Company (ASAJA), Sebastià Ordines (Unió de Pagesos), and Joana Mascaró (UPA). Also present was the Director General of Agri-food Quality and Local Products of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Joan Llabrés.
During the meeting, the attendees agreed to join forces and develop joint strategies aimed at increasing the consumption of local products in Mallorca’s tourism sector, exceeding even the 3% threshold established by the Law on Sustainability and Circularity in Tourism in the Balearic Islands (Law 3/2022).

The Consell de Mallorca and the Local Product Sector Join Forces to Boost Their Consumption in the Tourism Industry
Rodríguez emphasised that the Consell de Mallorca is committed to complying with this regulation to support and ensure the consumption of fresh agricultural, livestock, and fishery products sourced from the Balearic Islands.
Meanwhile, sector representatives called for the implementation of effective measures to ensure compliance with the law.
In this regard, the minister used the occasion to share 2024 compliance data and reported that four monitoring campaigns were carried out to verify adherence to the regulation regarding the percentage of local products used across various types of tourism establishments:
- An initial campaign is not limited to a specific type of establishment.
- A second campaign focused on restaurants in eight specific municipalities (Andratx, Felanitx, Inca, Llucmajor, Muro, Sant Llorenç, Sineu, and Valldemossa).
- A third targeting five-star hotels, agrotourism venues, and rural hotels in the same eight municipalities.
- A fourth campaign aimed at food and accommodation establishments across the entire island.
These campaigns required establishments to submit information justifying the percentage of local products used, encompassing over 1,000 businesses in total. According to Rodríguez, although the regulation sets a minimum compliance rate of 3%, “the results exceed this figure, but we will not settle—we will continue promoting local product consumption throughout the entire tourism value chain.”
Support for Local Products
In addition, the Consell de Mallorca remains firmly committed to promoting local products and will allocate €2.1 million this year for the promotion and dissemination of Mallorcan products. This represents a 50% increase compared to the previous year, following the success of the 2024 call for proposals, during which all available funds were exhausted.
