The contract modification responds to the need to adapt the construction to new structural regulations

This modification includes the implementation of aerothermal energy, a water and heating system that reduces the building’s energy consumption.

The Consell de Govern has ratified the modification of the construction contract for the Son Dureta Hospital, with an added value of €14.8 million. The hospital is currently under construction, and the deadlines will not be affected by this change.

The contract modification is due to the need to adapt the construction to new structural regulations, which require higher percentages of iron and concrete in building structures. It is important to note that during the long planning phase of the Son Dureta reform, the regulations were updated.

Additionally, the modification includes the incorporation of aerothermal energy, a water and heating system that reduces energy consumption throughout the building’s lifespan. This system is being adopted by the Balearic Health Service in all its new facilities.

With this modification, construction continues on Building B (the long-stay building), which will consist of three blocks intended for patients with complex needs, requiring special care or unable to remain at home.

This facility will cover an area of 38,630 m² and will feature a hospitalisation area with 242 beds, a functional assessment unit, and an outpatient area including a day hospital (with capacity for 80 patients per day), as well as functional and cognitive rehabilitation spaces and outpatient clinics. In addition, Building B will also include a health centre (with an estimated 20,000 registered users) and a Primary Care Emergency Service (SUAP) for around 120,000 users.

The new healthcare complex will have a total capacity of 540 beds for patients requiring medium- and long-term care.

Currently, the demolition of the semicircular building is underway. Once completed, the construction phase will begin, maintaining the semicircular structure and covering a total surface area of 44,192 m², intended for patients receiving treatment, care, and rehabilitation to regain autonomy and reintegrate into society.
