With a budget of €600,000, this year, for the first time, a specific line of funding has been introduced to support temporary residential respite services to help caregivers balance their responsibilities.
A total of 519 individuals have applied this year for the financial assistance offered by the Institut Mallorquí d’Afers Socials (IMAS) to cover expenses related to health and social treatments, technical aids, and residential respite services for people with disabilities. The 2025 call for applications received a total of 542 requests.

IMAS Receives 542 Applications for Financial Assistance for People with Disabilities
The president of IMAS and Minister of Social Welfare, Guillermo Sánchez, expressed his satisfaction with the number of applications received, which represent an increase of nearly 40% compared to the previous call:
“We have achieved exactly what we aimed for — reaching as many people and families as possible. It’s clear evidence of the effectiveness of the new, more inclusive guidelines, which allowed applicants to apply for more than one type of assistance. At IMAS, we will continue working to improve access to these benefits and ensure they reach those who truly need them,” he stated.
With a total budget of €600,000, the 2025 assistance program includes three distinct lines:
- One for acquiring technical aids
- One for funding health and social treatments
- One for temporary residential respite services for families — a new addition this year, which has been particularly well received by caregiving families.
Notably, for the first time, a single applicant or family can apply for two different types of aid.
“These grants are much more than administrative procedures — they are tools that bring dignity to the daily lives of people with disabilities and support the families who care for them,” said Guillermo Sánchez. “Seeing increased participation year after year is a sign that these grants are truly responding to a real need.”
In addition to allowing individuals with a disability rating over 66% to apply for two forms of assistance, this year’s call also considered adapted income thresholds for families with two or more members with disabilities, to ease access.
“These are small but significant advances that have a major impact on the lives of many people,” emphasised Maria Francesca Rigo, IMAS Director for People with Disabilities.
IMAS has highly valued the consolidation of this call as a tool for improving the well-being of people with disabilities and their families, as well as for promoting equal opportunities in Mallorca.
