Education allocates over one million euros to initial qualification programs for the 2025–2026 school year

The Ministry of Education and Universities of the Balearic Islands has published a call in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) for economic aid aimed at funding Initial Qualification Programs (PQI) and Specific Initial Qualification Programs (PQIE) for the 2025–2026 academic year. The total amount allocated for this initiative is €1,080,000.

The funding is open to local councils, municipal associations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), non-profit professional and business associations, and social economy entities, provided they operate under the coordination of the educational administration.

Education allocates over one million euros to initial qualification programs

The objective of this call is to provide a second educational opportunity for young people who have left, or are at risk of leaving, compulsory education without earning their secondary school diploma (ESO). These students often face significant barriers to employment, have struggled to engage with formal education, and have not responded well to standard support measures. These programs offer an alternative path for acquiring basic professional skills and facilitate integration into the job market.

📚 Who are the programs for?

These programs are designed for young people who:

  • Cannot follow a basic vocational training program successfully.
  • Do not have an ESO diploma or equivalent.
  • Want to obtain a level 1 qualification from the National Catalogue of Professional Qualifications.
  • May have sensory disabilities.

🔧 Training available for 2025–2026:

A total of 18 programs will be offered across the following professional fields:

  • Agriculture (AGA): Nursery and garden assistant, Floristry assistant, Forest maintenance assistant
  • Graphic Arts (ARG): Reprography assistant
  • Commerce & Marketing (COM): Retail assistant
  • Electricity & Electronics (ELE): Electrical and telecom installation assistant
  • Woodwork & Furniture (MAM): Carpentry assistant
  • Hospitality & Tourism (HOT): Kitchen assistant, Restaurant services assistant, Room operations assistant
  • Personal Image (IMP): Hairdressing assistant, Aesthetic services assistant
  • IT & Communications (IFC): Computer systems maintenance assistant
  • Installation & Maintenance (IMA): Plumbing and domestic HVAC assistant
  • Vehicle Transport & Maintenance (TMV): Bodywork maintenance assistant, Electromechanical maintenance assistant

📊 Results from the 2024–2025 academic year:

During the current school year, €871,875 in aid was granted to the Calvià City Council and nine other entities, including:

  • Amadip–Esment Fundació
  • Amadiba
  • Germanes de la Caritat de Sant Vicenç de Paül – Naüm
  • Fundació Patronat Obrer de Sant Josep
  • Accent
  • Associació Nàutica Alcúdia
  • Fundació Maria Ferret

A total of 127 students have benefited from 15 programs, including four new additions:

  • Assistant in maintenance of structural and surface coating elements of recreational boats
  • Assistant in maintenance of systems and equipment of recreational boats
  • Forest conservation and improvement assistant
  • Computer systems maintenance assistant
