The Balearic Islands have reached a record of 638,590 Social Security affiliations, representing a 2.6% year-on-year increase and a monthly growth of 8.7%, the highest in Spain. These results confirm a situation of full employment, with the lowest recorded administrative unemployment rate of 3.8%.

The number of unemployed individuals dropped to 25,359, which is 5.2% less than in May 2024 and 4.8% lower than in April. Employment contracts also showed strong dynamics: 50,369 new contracts were signed in May. Although this represents a 4.4% decrease compared to the previous year, there was a 24.9% increase over April. Notably, 76.1% of the contracts were permanent, far exceeding the national average of 41.6%.

In terms of demographics, unemployment decreased most notably among women (–5.4%), people over 25 (–6.3%), and Spanish nationals (–6.2%), though it rose 6% among those under 25 years old.

In May, there were 54,638 registered job seekers, a 1.3% increase compared to the previous year. However, this figure shows a 17.4% drop compared to April. The unemployment benefit coverage rate fell to 35.6%, which is 4.3 points lower than in May 2024.
