Thanks to this initiative, the school will grow from its current 16 ESO (Compulsory Secondary Education) units to a total of 20, and for the first time, it will include 8 units of Bachillerato (upper secondary education). As a result, the school’s capacity will rise from 480 to 880 students, nearly doubling the current figure.

The new building will have two floors. The ground floor will include the teachers’ lounge, various department offices, support classrooms, and classrooms for the first year of Bachillerato. The upper floor will house second-year Bachillerato classrooms, new ESO classrooms, additional support spaces, and laboratories.

Construction officially began on April 4, 2025, and the project is scheduled for completion within 15 months. The total budget allocated for the expansion is €6,067,872.03.

This initiative is part of Illes en Transformació, a strategic program promoted by the Government of the Balearic Islands aimed at enhancing the region’s infrastructure. The goal is to modernize public spaces and services in key areas such as education, healthcare, mobility, and sustainability, ensuring a more efficient, inclusive, and balanced future for all citizens.

With the expansion of IES Sant Marçal, the Ministry of Education and Universities continues to demonstrate its commitment to adapting the educational offering to the real needs of the territory and to ensuring high-quality, modern learning environments for the entire educational community.

This project is funded through the Insularity Factor of the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands (REIB).
