The installation highlights the environmental impact of pollution caused by abandoned waste
The exhibition will remain on display at Ca n’Oleo until September 5, 2025
To mark World Environment Day, the Directorate General of Culture of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports is exhibiting the installation GRUMEDITERRANEJANT by artist Francesc Ramis.
The exhibition is hosted in the courtyard of Ca n’Oleo in Palma and will be open to the public until September 5, 2025.
This artwork reveals the harsh environmental reality caused by abandoned waste, particularly plastic pollution. The toxicity of these materials threatens the health of our seas and oceans, as well as the survival of marine species.

“What better way to contribute to the sustainability of our planet than by reusing plastics, among other materials collected from the sea, and transforming them into art to represent marine symbiosis and magnificent jellyfish that transport us to an imaginative underwater world? Jellyfish are as fascinating and spectacular in shape and colour as they are feared; they live freely, drifting along ocean currents until they end up here, on solid ground, inside this charming courtyard of Ca n’Oleo,” said Jaume Bauzà, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports.
These jellyfish serve as a metaphor to reinforce the artwork’s message: the importance of conscious and effective recycling education that leads to a reduction in waste and material volume, and, consequently, to a healthier and better world.
The aim of this striking installation is not only to please the eye but also to stimulate the mind, so that, like swarms of jellyfish, we move toward more sustainable marine and coastal ecosystems, especially in our Mediterranean Sea.
Artist Francesc Ramis was recently selected in the 2025 Mediterranean Sustainable Art call for proposals, organised by Fundació Baleària in collaboration with Drap-Art Festival of Catalonia and the Art amb B Association, in celebration of World Environment Day.
