Minister Cirer meets with the President of the Consell d’Eivissa and representatives of local municipalities
The number of emancipation places for minors in Ibiza will also be increased
The Minister of Families and Social Affairs, Catalina Cirer, announced today that the regional government is evaluating new locations in the municipalities of Sant Joan de Labritja and Sant Josep de sa Talaia to develop resources for the care of people in situations of dependency. Cirer made this statement following a meeting with the President of the Consell Insular d’Eivissa, Vicent Marí. Also present were Maria Castro, Director General for Dependency Care; Sira Fiz, Manager of the Foundation for Dependency Care; and Alejandro Mora, Manager of the Consortium of Sociosanitary and Assistance Resources.

Balearic Government Considers New Locations to Develop Dependency Care Resources on the Island of Ibiza
From the Consell d’Eivissa, the meeting included Carolina Escandell, Councillor for Social Welfare; Marilina Ribas, Councillor for Youth and for the Sa Coma Services Park; and Marilina Bonet, Island Director of Social Welfare.
Several key issues affecting Ibiza were addressed during the meeting, including the mass arrival of unaccompanied minors and the challenges faced by the protection systems in meeting their needs. Cirer and Marí both called for greater involvement from the central government, which holds responsibility in this area.
“We feel abandoned,” said Marí. “We always have to raise our voices to get help from the central government.”
More Emancipation Places for Minors
Another topic discussed was the need for more emancipation places in Ibiza to support minors transitioning out of the child protection system.
“We will launch a tender for organizations,” said Cirer, “to add between 20 and 30 new emancipation places in Ibiza.”
These places will be complemented by the purchase of two new housing units with European funding, also for this purpose.
“This is an important step to help these young people in Ibiza transition to adult life and gain access to education and employment,” added Cirer.
Second Disability Assessment Emergency Plan
The issue of waiting lists for disability assessments was also addressed. Cirer announced the activation of the second emergency plan of the current legislative term. The plan includes several measures, such as collaboration with the Balearic Health Service to address the shortage of assessment personnel.
Along with new fast-track protocols, emergency procedures, and external contracting planned after the summer, Cirer stated that the initiative will significantly improve service quality in the Balearic Islands, with visible progress expected by early next year.
Roadmap for the Transfer of Care Home Competencies
Lastly, the meeting also addressed the transfer of authority over residential care homes from the regional government to the Consell d’Eivissa. Cirer and Marí announced that a protocol agreement is expected to be signed this year, outlining timelines and an initial co-management phase.
The agreement will also define a staffing structure to ensure that the transfer of responsibilities is carried out with full guarantees.
