The Illes Balears Symphony Orchestra will perform Haydn’s Symphony No. 102 and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 under the baton of Maestro Leopold Hager.

This Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 9:30 p.m., the Illes Balears Symphony Orchestra will present the third concert of the Bellver Festival. The program includes Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 102, also known as London Symphony No. 10, and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4. Leopold Hager will be the guest conductor for the evening. The concert will open with Haydn’s Symphony No. 102, one of the twelve London Symphonies composed during his stay in the British capital in 1792. This piece is widely regarded by audiences as one of Haydn’s greatest symphonic works, noted for its balance, ingenuity, and vitality.

The Symphony Orchestra takes centre stage at the third concert of the Bellver Festival with works by Haydn and Beethoven
To conclude the evening, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 will be performed. Composed in Vienna in 1807, this symphony showcases the composer’s lighter and more cheerful side. It is a true gem of classical refinement, consisting of three movements filled with clarity, virtuosity, and charm.
Leopold Hager, who will conduct the third concert of the Bellver Festival, was born in Salzburg, Austria. He studied conducting, organ, piano, harpsichord, and composition at the renowned Mozarteum in his hometown. After early engagements in Mainz, Linz, and Cologne, he became conductor of the orchestra in Freiburg/Breisgau. He later served as conductor of the Mozarteum Orchestra in Salzburg, music director of the RTL Symphony Orchestra in Luxembourg, and principal conductor of the Volksoper in Vienna. Since 2015, he has been the principal guest conductor of the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música. Hager has also taught orchestral conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
As a guest conductor, he is highly acclaimed in major opera houses including the Vienna State Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Semperoper Dresden, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, and Opéra Bastille in Paris. He has also conducted in the opera houses of Lyon, Berlin, Leipzig, Nice, and the Stuttgart State Opera.
With an extensive international career, Leopold Hager has led many of the world’s most prestigious orchestras, including the Dresden Staatskapelle, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic, Bamberg Symphony, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, and the Washington Symphony Orchestra, among others.
