President Galmés Meets with Municipalities of the Pla de Mallorca Commonwealth to Address Regional Issues

The meeting served to address various important matters affecting the municipalities within this intermunicipal entity, especially issues related to the management of water resources, focusing in particular on the water shortage currently impacting Montüiri and Porreres.

President Galmés expressed “his willingness to collaborate in every possible way to help alleviate this problem, to address the water shortage and improve the quality of the supply affecting some municipalities on the island.”

In this regard, Councillor Pilar Amate recalled that “her Department approved a new call for grants last year aimed at improving infrastructure and services of the island’s commonwealths, which the Pla de Mallorca Commonwealth used to purchase a plot in Sineu to build a potable water regulating reservoir for the Pla de Mallorca area.”

Construction of a Water Reservoir with Support from the Consell

The Consell de Mallorca granted aid amounting to €52,794 to the Pla de Mallorca Commonwealth, which was used to purchase a plot in the Sineu industrial estate for the construction of a water regulating reservoir for the Pla de Mallorca region. In its first phase, this reservoir would be connected to Montüiri.

The amounts allocated for these grants were determined based on the population figures of the municipalities forming part of the commonwealths. The 2024 call for grants has a total budget of €235,000. This grant is awarded every two years, so the next call directed at commonwealths will be published in 2026, coinciding with the Public Works and Services Plan.
