The replacement of the pipeline section between Moll Vell and the future main pumping station will modernise the sewer system and improve the sanitary conditions of the port environment
The Board of Directors of Ports de les Illes Balears (PortsIB) has approved the granting of an administrative concession to the Andratx Town Council to carry out renovation works on the port’s sewerage network, specifically the replacement of the pipeline section between the Moll Vell pumping station and the future main station. The goal of the project is to improve the sewerage and wastewater treatment system of the urban and port area, optimise the network’s operation, and prevent undesirable discharges into the marine environment.

PortsIB Grants the Andratx Town Council a Concession to Renovate the Port’s Sewerage Network
The works are part of the updated and consolidated project for the expansion and improvement of the Andratx wastewater treatment plant (EDAR), developed within the framework of a collaboration agreement between the Town Council and the Balearic Water and Environmental Quality Agency (ABAQUA). The new pipeline, measuring 470 meters in length and 2 meters in width, will be completely buried within the port’s service area, covering a total surface area of 940 m².
According to the technical report issued by PortsIB, the works are deemed necessary due to the poor condition of the existing network and are compatible with the normal operation of port facilities. The project will not significantly impact maritime or land traffic, as the affected surface will be fully available for port use once the installation is completed. The concession will be valid for 20 years, extendable for an additional 15 years, and the payment of a fee is waived under regional tax regulations.
The construction period is set at 14 months from the start date. The Town Council must formally notify of both the commencement and completion of the works, submitting the relevant technical documentation, including the final works certificate. PortsIB reserves the right to inspect the condition of the works and facilities and may require maintenance or repair actions if necessary.
With this initiative, Ports de les Illes Balears continues to promote collaboration with local councils to improve basic infrastructure in the regional ports, particularly in the areas of sanitation, hygiene, public health, and environmental protection. The renovation of this pipeline is part of a broader strategy to ensure efficient operation of the sewer network and support the sustainability of coastal towns across the islands.
