The president of the Institut Mallorquí d’Afers Socials (IMAS), Guillermo Sánchez, and the general director of the ADEMA University School, Carlos López, signed a collaboration agreement today at IMAS headquarters to develop workshops and educational activities focused on promoting oral and nutritional health among older adults.
The event was also attended by Catalina Maria Mascaró, Director of Personal Autonomy Promotion at IMAS, along with members of ADEMA’s teaching staff.
The agreement establishes a framework of cooperation for carrying out workshops, sessions, and educational activities for users of IMAS’s Centres for the Promotion of Personal Autonomy (CPAP). The aim is to improve their oral and nutritional health through actions conducted by ADEMA students from the degrees in Dentistry and Human Nutrition and Dietetics, under the supervision of the faculty. These activities will include participatory learning strategies, in-person sessions, and complementary educational materials.

This project aims to provide older adults with practical tools and knowledge to foster balanced diets and maintain proper oral hygiene—two key factors for active and healthy ageing.
Additionally, these activities encourage socialisation, active participation, and self-awareness about health, which are essential for boosting self-esteem and preventing isolation or functional decline. Direct interaction with future healthcare professionals also fosters respect, listening, and personalised care, while allowing students to apply their knowledge in real-life settings and gain a community-oriented perspective.
IMAS president Guillermo Sánchez emphasised that “this collaboration reinforces our commitment to prevention and health promotion among older adults, providing them with practical, tailored resources to enhance their daily well-being.” He also highlighted that “CPAP centres are a privileged space to implement initiatives that improve quality of life and foster autonomy.”
Carlos López, general director of ADEMA, stated that “this project responds to a real need from a multidisciplinary and community perspective in this population segment.” He added that it aligns with public policies promoting active ageing, dependency prevention, and person-centred care, while reinforcing the university’s commitment to social engagement and training professionals with sensitivity and service-oriented values.
Through this initiative, the Consell de Mallorca, via IMAS, strengthens its commitment to promoting personal autonomy and networking with third-sector and academic entities to move towards a more caring and healthy society.
