President Vicent Marí warns that this measure contradicts the tourism containment policies promoted by the Consell, which have allowed the elimination of nearly 10,000 illegal tourist beds in one year.

The President of the Consell Insular of Ibiza, Vicent Marí, has formally requested, via letter, that the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, and the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, withdraw the resolution allowing the tourist rental of private recreational boats — listed under the so‑called “seventh list” — without the controls or requirements demanded of the professional nautical charter sector.

The Consell of Ibiza Calls on the Spanish Government to Withdraw the Regulation Allowing Tourist Rentals of Private Boats

Marí, expressing the institution’s outright rejection of this measure, denounced that it was taken without any dialogue with the affected territories and represents a serious setback in the fight against tourist overcrowding in Ibiza. “It is an incoherent and disloyal measure, disregarding the effort we are making in Ibiza to bring order and guarantee sustainability,” the president stated.

In his letter to the ministers, Marí recalls that Ibiza has become a benchmark in the fight against illegal practices and uncontrolled growth, after a year in which nearly 10,000 illegal tourist beds have been removed. This success, he noted, is the result of a coordinated strategy with the island’s municipalities and the Balearic Government, based on inspection, technology, and the effective enforcement of penalties. “We cannot now open a new avenue of tourist pressure via the sea, outside any planning or carrying‑capacity considerations,” Marí stressed.

The president, therefore, calls for the withdrawal of the state resolution and for any future regulation of nautical rentals to be agreed upon with the autonomous and island administrations, warning of the risks posed by endorsing an unregulated activity that contradicts the basic principles of responsible tourism.

This request complies with the resolution approved at the most recent General Policy Plenary of the Consell of Ibiza, held on July 17, and presented by the Partido Popular group, urging the Spanish Government to withdraw its project to legalise the rental of private recreational boats.
