The Consell de Mallorca has unveiled the poster for the second Hunting and Rural World Fair, to be held on 13–14 September at the Son Pardo Hippodrome. Second Vice President and Minister for Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports, Pedro Bestard, announced that the Balearic boc will be one of the highlights of this year’s event, marking the 25th anniversary of the start of its recognition process as a unique protected species.

The fair will feature animal exhibitions, demonstrations, contests, cooking shows, local product stands and, as a novelty, a concert and comedy show on Saturday night. It will also showcase more livestock species than last year, as the previous edition was affected by a bluetongue alert that restricted the display of sheep and goats.

The Balearic boc, the male of the wild Mallorcan goat, will have purebred specimens on display in a special enclosure. Since 2000, studies have been conducted to identify and preserve this ancient goat variety, which in 2004 was officially recognised by the Safari Club International as a valid trophy species worldwide.

The programme also includes family-friendly activities such as falconry demonstrations, sheepdog trials, agility shows, horse races, live cooking of traditional hunting recipes, and a photography contest on hunting and rural themes, with winning entries exhibited at the fair.

Bestard encouraged residents to attend, recalling that the inaugural edition drew large crowds and expressing his hope that this year’s turnout will be even greater.
