The Ministry of Families, Social Welfare and Care for Dependency and the Institut Mallorquí d’Afers Socials (IMAS) have signed a cooperation agreement ensuring 186 places —40 day-care and 146 residential— for people over the age of 55 officially recognised as dependent.
The agreement, valid until December 31, 2027, has a maximum budget of €11.5 million and includes funding for the recruitment of a social worker to coordinate the booking system of Mallorca’s Public Network for Dependency Care (XPAD).

New agreement secures 186 places for dependent elderly people in Mallorca
The places will be distributed as follows:
- Day Centre Mente 2 (Palma): 30 places
- Day Center El Hospicio (Felanitx): 10 places
- Hogar de los Ancianos Residence (Palma): 60 places
- Son Caulelles Residence (Marratxí): 70 places
- Miquel Mir Residence (Inca): 16 places
The services offered cover accommodation, meals, hygiene, medical care, and also activities that promote autonomy and adapted leisure, with the goal of improving quality of life and supporting caregiving families.
Minister Sandra Fernández emphasised that this agreement “strengthens cooperation between the Government and IMAS to guarantee quality care for the most vulnerable elderly people, while optimising public resources and prioritising personal autonomy.”
Meanwhile, IMAS President Guillermo Sánchez stated that “this agreement allows us to guarantee places and quality care for dependent elderly people, while reinforcing and streamlining the public care system and making better use of available resources.”
