Thirteen municipalities in Mallorca have launched a joint taxi service aimed at improving mobility and expanding vehicle availability in the central and northern areas of the island. The initiative, promoted by the Government of the Balearic Islands, introduces a special year-round passenger pick-up scheme.

The municipalities included in the agreement are: Pollença, Alcúdia, Muro, Santa Margalida, Sa Pobla, Llubí, Inca, Binissalem, Alaró, Selva, Campanet, Petra, and Escorca. Under this scheme, licensed taxis will be able to pick up passengers in any of these towns and drop them off anywhere on the island, reducing empty return journeys and improving efficiency.

This measure is part of the new single fare system approved by the regional government, designed to encourage inter-municipal cooperation. The initiative was presented by the Minister of Housing, Land and Mobility, José Luis Mateo, during a meeting in Inca, alongside mayors, councillors, and representatives of taxi associations.

The new scheme will be gradually implemented starting this week in the municipalities that have already completed the process: Alaró, Alcúdia, Campanet, Escorca, Inca, Muro, Petra, Pollença, Sa Pobla, Santa Margalida, and Selva. Binissalem and Llubí will join shortly.

The government also plans to extend this model to the Llevant area, with Artà, Sant Llorenç, and Son Servera expected to participate. A similar initiative is already in place in the Bay of Palma and the Serra de Tramuntana during the summer season.

The agreement will initially last for one year, with automatic renewals of up to four years. It will operate 24/7, all year round, under the official fares approved last June.

“This is another step forward in the ongoing effort to modernise and improve the taxi service across the island,” said Minister Mateo, joined by the Director General of Mobility, Lorena del Valle.
